Facts about St, Timothy's Pipe Organ

  • St. Timothy's is the only church in Curry County, Oregon with a pipe organ
  • Oregon Diocese Arch Deacon Lincoln Eng found the pipe organ at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Newburg, Oregon, in their storage barn.  The original home of the organ had been the Portland YMCA.
  • At the request of Fr. Tom Dement, the organ was restored by Richard Bond Company of Portland, then shipped to St. Timothy's in Brookings.
  • Don Horton's foreman, Blaine Gribble, rebuilt St. Timothy's organ loft to house the organ piping.  Gribble's work and donation was made in memory of his beloved wife, Mildred, who had been active in St. Timothy's musical presentations.
  • When the organ arrived in Brookings, Don Smith and Rich Gilstrap hoisted it into the choir loft, using block and tackle.
  • Tigger Misener led the congregation's effort to raise funds, retrofit the organ and loft and install  the organ in 1987.
  • Gordon and Honore Miller donated the funds to upgrade the organ in 1990, bringing the organ to full blower power with glass chimes doors.
  • Jason Gravel of Organ Professionals upgraded the organ by reweighing the bellows to more pressure, finding, in the process, some of the original packing paper in some of the piping.
