The Rev. Bernie Lindley
Father Bernie was baptized at St Timothy at the age of 6. He was an acolyte throughout his youth serving at the same altar where he now presides. After graduating from Willamette University, he and his wife, Paige, found jobs in Portland before getting homesick. They moved back to Brookings in 1990 so that Fr. Bernie could follow in his grandfather and father’s footsteps as a commercial fisherman.
His call to ordained ministry came in 2002, eventually taking his family to Virginia Theological Seminary. In June of 2008 he was ordained to the priesthood by the Rt. Rev. Robert Ladehoff at the park across the street from St Timothy. The following month he was installed as vicar. Fr. Bernie continues to fish commercially for Dungeness crab during the winter months onboard the 66 foot fishing vessel SeaJay.
The Rev. Linda Lee
During a 2003 graduate program at George Fox University in Portland, Oregon we were asked to write an essay as our career mission statement, and it became an opportunity to make a true commitment. I wrote that my mission statement came directly from Matthew 22: 37-40 and was to be the following: ”To love the Lord my God with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my mind and to love my neighbor as myself”. It has defined my journey ever since.
Along the way, through the many decades, I gained a deeper understanding of serving Him through family, parish, community, and career activities. I found carrying our Lord’s love out into the community while learning from those in harm’s way invaluable. The scripture admonition to love our neighbor as ourselves is so clear to me and that to follow Christ is to heed his request. And as we do his work we are nourished, uplifted, and embraced by the graces of the Holy Eucharist.
On this journey, and quite unexpectantly, I accepted a call to become an Episcopal Deacon in the Diocese of Oregon, After a four-year process, I was ordained to The Order of the Diaconate on July 19, 2020 at St. Timothy’s, Brookings. I am now serving as a deacon at St. Timothy’s where we work always to provide, as our Vicar preaches, ‘Radical Hospitality’.
